High Lateral Tension Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) Beverly Hills

Abdominoplasty, more commonly referred to as a Tummy Tuck is a procedure, which removes extra skin and fat from the abdomen and tightens the over stretched muscles.
Excessive laxity of the abdominal skin and muscles is generally due to multiple pregnancies or significant weight loss in overweight people.  While exercising is effective in toning muscles in mild cases, it is not capable of reversing overhanging skin or tightening loose abdominal muscles.

Excessive skin folds and general bulging of the abdomen are undesirable conditions, which can cause both physical and emotional health problems.  In many cases, the heavy skin folds hang over the lower abdomen causing moisture related chronic skin irritation.   Since the excess weight of the abdominal skin is all in the front, the back muscles are constantly in spasm working hard to straighten and correct the spinal posture so that the heavy load is redistributed more evenly.  Constant spasm of the back muscles is the main reason for back pain which is not uncommon in over-weight people with large abdomens.  When one gains weight, a thick layer of fat is deposited both under the skin and internally inside the abdomen.  As the internal fat expands it stretches and weakens the abdominal muscles.  Now, the weakened abdominal muscles are incapable of pushing back and holding the internal fat and organs.  Therefore, the abdomen begins to bulge.

Psychologically women can be very self-conscious about the shape and size of their abdomen and often feel a loss of feminine appeal when they see the condition of their tummy.  They also face additional problems when attempting to find appropriate clothing.

Conventional Abdominoplasty tightens muscles only in a vertical line.  I prefer the new method known as High Lateral Tension Abdominoplasty, which in addition to vertical tightening, muscles are also tightened horizontally.  This technique also allows removal of maximum skin from the flanks giving a more sculpted appearance.  The final result with High Lateral Tension Abdominoplasty is a dramatically flatter abdomen with significantly better-defined waistline.  With this new technique, the waistline shrinks both in front to back and side to side dimension.  The effect of this tightening can be compared to wearing a tight girdle under your skin, which squeezes the abdomen in all directions without the discomfort of actually wearing one.

Since tummy tuck also trims and tailors the skin, a scar is to be expected.  The incision is placed very low in the abdomen so the scar is less visible.  A new opening is made in the tightly pulled skin for relocation of the umbilicus.  In reality, the operation does not create a new belly button.  It is your own umbilicus, which appears through the new opening.  Prior to the final skin tightening, the loose and stretched abdominal muscles are sewn together in the vertical and horizontal plane.  All suturing is done under the skin surface with absorbable sutures.  Therefore there is no need for stitch removal.
Since the incision is kept low in the pubic area any preexisting low abdominal scars such as scars from c-section can also be removed.

In some cases, the hair bearing skin of the pubic area is so stretched that the edge of the hairline climbs up well into the lower abdominal region.  This obviously looks unattractive and unfeminine.  In order to address this problem, I perform a Puboplasty.
This removes the overstretched pubic area and lowers the hairline to its natural location.

High Lateral Tension Abdominoplasty is performed under general anesthesia and requires a recovery time of 10 to 15 days.  Abdominal exercises should be avoided for a period of 6 to 8 weeks.  This is to avoid undue tension on the tightened muscles until healing is completed.

Patients who undergo High Lateral Tension Abdominoplasty not only look better but also feel better about their appearance.  Once again shopping for new outfits becomes enjoyable.  Quite often patients are so motivated to maintain the newly contoured shape that changing their eating and exercising habits become part of their new lifestyle.

Surgical fees for Tummy Tuck procedures range from $8,000 to $15,800 which includes anesthesia fees, facility charge as well as post operative visits.
