Cellulite: A brief Discussion
Cellulite is best described as the lumpy appearance of fat in the hips and thighs. Cellulite is almost always seen in women. Therefore the reason seems to be hormonal. It is usually not seen at a young age and occurs mostly following pregnancy or the usage of birth control pills. Unyieldingly, tight scar like bands extending from the deeper tissues to the under surface of the skin form compartments within the skin fat. These cubicles separate lumps of skin fat from each other. When woman gain even the slightest weight, the fat in each compartment grows independently while the separating partitions do not stretch so the fat bulges out in the form of lumps and produces typical cobble stone and wavy appearance of cellulite.
Currently, there is no scientifically proven method to treat cellulite. Lasers and radiofrequency have been used with minimal if any improvement. Mesotherapy, a controversial injection therapy to reduce fat and cellulite has not been proven by any scientifically valid study to demonstrate its safety or effectiveness. Mesotherapy is not approved by the FDA at this time. Liposuction is not effective in reduction of cellulite. Theoretically one has to suction each and every lump perfectly flat and even to create a smooth surface which is obviously impossible to do.
