Following Breast Implant Surgery patients are observed in the recovery room by the Registered Nurse until they are wide awake. A responsible adult should accompany the patient home. If preexisting medical issues are present, patients may be required to spend the 1st night in a recovery facility. Appropriate antibiotics and pain medications prescriptions are given on the preoperative visit so that these medicines are available at home. A pain medication is usually required during the first few days after which Tylenol may be sufficient. Dressings stays on for 2-3 days and are changed on the first postoperative visit. Suturing in done under the skin with absorbable sutures so there are no stitches to be removed. While the dressings are on, patients are required to sponge bathe after which normal showering is permitted. I recommend wearing a snug fitting sports bra for 2-3 weeks after Breast Implant Surgery. Afterwards any good supportive bra will do. Upper body exercises and heavy lifting are to be avoided for 6 weeks this is to allow the Breast implants to heal in the desired position. To minimize the appearance of scars, silicone gel preparations are highly recommended. Instructions for their use will be given post operatively.
